Raleigh Denim has stepped in to save the legendary Cone Mills White Oak Denim plant with the the White Oak Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit that celebrates over a century of denim manufacturing in the US. With plans to build a museum and promote education, the foundation's biggest goal was to bring manufacturing back to the White Oak Building. This resulted in the creation of Proximity Manufacturing, a division of the White Oak Legacy Foundation, who have been able to get two X3 Draper looms running in the building with the help of two former White Oak workers. The looms are producing 100% American grown, ringspun cotton yarn to create a shrink-to-fit selvage jean, bringing a small but significant glimmer of hope for the historic building.
