Playdate's Game Boy-inspired handheld will be available for pre-order next month
Panic's Game Boy-inspired handheld is getting closer and closer to the finish line as the company has announced that pre-orders are set to begin next month. Priced at $179, the Teenage Engineering-designed handheld is as simple as it gets with a d-pad, two buttons, and a unique crank controller. Playdate users will get a season of games with two new titles every week to be automatically sent to the device for 12 weeks. As for specs, Playdate can stay powered in standby for up to two weeks and has 8 hours of play time on a single charge. It also features a Cortex M7 processor, 16MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a built-in mono speaker, headphone jack, and a reflective 400x240 black and white display.
Pre-orders begin in July and Panic is aiming to get Playdates to its first customers sometime this year.
