Intel's new Core i9 aims to be the best CPU for your VR and 4K needs

Intel's got some new firepower that will be hitting shelves later this month as the company is set to release its flagship consumer CPU, the Core i9. The company has just revealed the official specs for its top-of-the-line chip and if you plan on diving in head first into the world VR and 4K content, this is going to be the chip for you. 

The Core i9-7980XE will be a powerhouse of with a base clock speed of 2.6GHz and speeds toward its maximum clock speed of 4.4GHz when needed. The 18 core/36 thread chip will also feature a 24.75 MB L3 cache, four-channel DDR4-2666 memory support, and 44 PCIexpress lanes so you can spec your build with all the storage and GPUs you could ever possibly need. 

The Core i9 chips will be available on August 28th and will be offered in five models that range from a 10-core option all the way up to the 18-core model featured above.
