August's new smart locks get more advanced and more affordable

The company introduces a third-generation model and a new entry-level lock.

If you're outfitting your pad with smarthome devices, odds are you're going to start with one of the most important pieces: your door. August has been one of the pioneers of smart locks and today, the company introduces its latest 3rd generation Smart Lock Pro ($279) and a new entry-level Smart Lock ($149). 

One of the main features that's available on both locks is DoorSense, an integrated sensor that will alert a user if a door is open or closed. Both locks are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled while the Smart Lock Pro has support for Apple HomeKit and Siri, Amazon Echo and Alexa, and Google Home and Assistant. 

Both can be controlled remotely, though the new August Smart Lock can only be locked and unlocked via your smartphone/smartwatch from your doorstep or remotely with the addition of a Wi-Fi bridge.
