Apple's "Far Out" event brought its annual updates to its smartphone and smartwatch range with the launch of the iPhone 14 lineup and the all-new Apple Watch Ultra. What's bound to be one of the biggest announcements from today is the Apple Watch Ultra, a high-performance sports watch that brings an all-new design with a 49mm titanium case, flat sapphire front crystal, and a customizable "Action" button. Battery life is rated at 36 hours and can be expanded to 60 hours in its low power setting. The Ultra's display is rated at up to 2000 nits of brightness and also has three mics for improved call quality, dual-frequency GPS, and a new line of rugged bands.

The now standard Apple Watch received its latest update with the Series 8 line. Available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, the watches maintain the same styling from the Series 7 while upgrading the processor and adding a few new sensors. These sensors include a body temperature sensor and a new gyroscope and accelerometer that can be used for crash detection. Apple also announced a new SE that has the same S8 processor as the Series 8 and is available with 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases with a new nylon composite case back.

The AirPods Pro got an upgrade with a 2nd generation model that is powered by an all-new H2 chip. The chip brings higher bandwidth, allowing for improved sound quality and enhancements to both Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency. Battery life has also seen a boost with up to 6 hours of playback and up to 30 total hours via the included charging case. The charging case gets a few tweaks as well with a built-in speaker to help you track them down and there's an integrated lanyard loop to secure them to your favorite accessory.

Apple's best-selling iPhone enters its 14th generation with improved cameras and a Emergency SOS feature. The 14 and 14 Plus come in 6.1 and 6.7" sizes and pack an A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU, Crash Detection, and an Emergency SOS via satellite feature that lets you get in touch with emergency services from remote locations that have no cellular connectivity. The phones also have updated displays with up to 1200 nits of peak brightness and upgraded cameras with larger sensors.

The flagship iPhone 14 Pro gets all the bleeding edge tech with always-on displays, peak brightness up to 2000 nits, and a new replacement for the infamous notch called the "Dynamic Island." Availble with 6.1" or 6.7" ProMotion displays, the 14 Pro is powered by an A16 Bionic chip and features a big camera upgrade with a 48MP main sensor, a new 12MP Ultra Wide camera, an improved Teleophoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a new TrueDepth camera with an f/1.9 aperture for improved low-light performance.

Another major feature is "Dynamic Island," which moves the technology that used to sit in the notch to a pill-shaped cutout that is tightly integrated into the iPhone's UI. Not only does it contain the TrueDepth camera but it also comes alive via software expanding with animations that work alongside features like Face ID, maps, music, and other third-party apps.

The Apple Watch Ultra, Series 8, and SE are available for pre-order today while the AirPods 2, iPhone 14, and iPhone Pro go up for pre-order on September 9th.
