Timex is taking a different approach to its first foray into smartwatches. The Timex IRONMAN ONE GPS+ is a smartwatch that can stay connected without ever being connected to your phone.

Though you can't make Dick Tracy-style calls with the watch, it will let you send and receive messages and you get one year of AT&T service to try it out. At the core of the IRONMAN is its GPS-enabled fitness tracking capability that gives you accurate distance and pace and you can upload that data to your favorite services like MapMyFitness and Strava. It also has a Qualcomm Mirasol display for an always-on display thats easy to read in the sun, 4GBs of storage for music streaming to your Bluetooth headphones, and compatibility with heart rate monitors and foot pods.

$399, Timex
