Nothing will ever replace the experience of going to the theater, but with rising ticket prices and and the quality of TV content getting better and better, more and more people would rather stay home than head to the cinema. The question is though, would you ever pay 4x the amount to watch movies on their theatrical release date in the comfort of your own home.

According to reports around the web, a new startup by Sean Parker and Prem Akkaraju aims to do just that. The idea isn't a new one, but options such as Prima Cinema offers that content at $500 a pop and the hardware to play it costs as much as a new BMW.  Screening Room plans to offer their content for $50 with a $150 hardware investment and on top of that $50 you'll also get two tickets to see the film at the movies.

So when will you be able to get it? Parker and Akkaraju definitely have a lot of work in front of them, but if reports from Variety prove to be true, Hollywood's most powerful and influential are already getting behind it and may finally get the studios to reconsider their distribution strategy.
