When a carmaker is calling its own design language "vanilla", you know something has to change. Volvo's new Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath, has lit a fire under the design group hoping to set a strong new design direction for the Swedish automaker. The brand is beginning this conversation with the Concept Coupe, a car inspired by the iconic P1800 and provides a hint of the new face of Volvo. Under the swoopy hood is a plug-in hybrid system, that couples a 2.0L gas engine, a supercharger, and a turbo with an electric motor to produce up to 400 hp. The Concept Coupe is the first of three concepts to preview the next generation model lineup which will start with the brand new XC90 SUV in 2014.
