Volkswagen Touareg R

Volkswagen's Touareg SUV is getting a new high-performance "R" model that puts a plug-in hybrid V6 powertrain under the hood, delivering a total of 456 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The brand's most powerful Touareg ever doesn't take efficiency off the table with the ability to travel on electric power alone at up to 87 mph. This is accompanied by an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic and VW's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The SUV will also support a trailer weight of up to 7,000 lbs and it has a Trailer Assist feature, which is a first for a plug-in hybrid SUV. As for exterior enhancements, the SUV features a Black Style exterior design package, 20-inch alloy wheels, and an R-Line interior trim.

The Touareg R will hit dealers in Europe in the second half of the year. A North American release date has not been announced at this time.
