Mercedes-AMG is adding a new designation to its performance lineup with the introduction of the 53-series range of cars. The 53-Series will initially launch with the CLS, E Coupe, and E Cabriolet, which will all be powered by an electrified 3.0L inline six that produces 429-hp and 384 lb-ft of torque.

The engines get a bit of help from their EQ Boost starter that is coupled with a 48V onboard electrical system to bump up the torque and horsepower. This will be accompanied by AMG's SPEEDSHIFT 9G transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive. Those enhancements allow for a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds (4.3 in the E Coupe) and the top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph.

The 53-Series cars will go on sale later this year.
