After failing to secure the tooling for the original Defender, Ineos founder Jim Ratcliffe set off on a mission to build the utilitarian 4x4 of his dreams. The end result is the Ineos Grenadier, a big and boxy, British-built all-terrain SUV with permanent all-wheel-drive, a ladder chassis, lockable differentials, a washable interior, 7000+ lb towing capacity, and a BMW engine. According to the company, the aim was to build a no-nonsense sport utility with durability, spacious cargo room, and easy repairability. Ineos is building a manufacturing facility that will be dedicated to the Grenadier in Bridgend, Wales and production will start in late 2021.
And yes, the company plans to sell the car in the USA.
