BMW previews HoloActive Touch

BMW has been known to push the needle when it comes to in-car technology and they hope to take their cars into the future with what they're calling HoloActive Touch. The technology takes what they've learned from heads up displays, gesture controls, and touchscreens to create a hologram-powered user interface much like you would imagine in a sci-fi movie.

While current BMWs allow you to use gesture controls to operate the dashboard, HoloActive touch takes this many steps forward. Full color displays look as if they're floating, a feat accomplished through a series of reflections just like their heads up display tech, but projected through the interior. Cameras detect your hands in space and allow you to register control inputs without ever touching a physical screen.
