Volkswagen reveals the most powerful production Golf of all time
Volkswagen's iconic high-performance hatchback is getting a big boost in performance for the 2022 model year with the reveal of the all-new, 315 hp Golf R. The twin-turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder produces 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, allowing for the Golf R to get from 0-62 in just 4.7 seconds and will reach a top speed of 155 mph. It also now features a torque vectoring 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, larger brakes, and a retuned suspension that has a .8" lower ride height than the standard model.
The design of the car has been updated with a new front bumper with a motorsport-style splitter, R-spec air intake grilles with high-gloss black accents, an LED-lit light strip above the radiator grille, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a high gloss black rear diffuser, matte chrome exterior mirror caps and blue brake calipers that are branded with the "R" logo. The interior of the Golf Mk 8 is upholstered in Nappa leather and also features a Digital Cockpit, and a 10-inch Discover Pro touchscreen.
The 2022 Golf R will be available later next year.
