As the brand's volume seller, the next-generation QX60 has some big shoes to fill and the brand claims to have spent over 1.5 million hours of r&d to get it just right. The end result is the 2022 QX60, a versatile, mid-size SUV that brings the brand into a new era of refined luxury, playing a careful balancing act of delivering an experience that offers comfort and convenience in all the right places.

The new design is a departure from the swoopy, creased lines of the previous model, debuting a fresh new design language that has a more imposing presence yet executes it in an elegant way that we feel will be a big hit with customers. It's a look that's quietly confident without going overboard and you can immediately see all the carefully considered design elements that come together in a seamless package that has a hint of utility, wrapped in a luxurious shell.

Inside, the new QX60 is equal parts tech-focused and extravagant. The interior serves up a generous helping of leather, which can be configured with quilted semi-aniline leather in the Autograph model (above) and open pore ash wood trim. Comfort hasn't been compromised for the rest of the passengers either, the spacious second row is setup with theater-style seating and you've got a tri-zone climate control system. There's even an available Plasmacluster air purifier that uses a grape polyphenol filter to reduce odors and allergens.

A full suite of technology is available that keeps up with the best out there, from an array of HD displays that includes a standard 12.3-inch Infiniti InTouch display, Wireless Apple CarPlay support, a 10.8" head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, and the sonic punch of an available Bose Performance Series 17-speaker audio system (available on Luxe trims).

When it comes to performance, the QX60 has a very capable, all-new 295-hp V6 under the hood with a 9-speed transmission and optional Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive. And if you want towing capability, Infiniti also offers a very impressive Tow Package that allows for up to 6,000 lbs of towing capacity. It's not game-changing performance by any means but what it does deliver is just the right amount of power and efficiency and does it in a package that is focused more on being a plush yet practical sanctuary for everyday life.

Those design choices can be seen throughout the vehicle, whether it's the lumbar-supporting Zero Gravity front seats that use NASA-inspired ergonomics to reduce stress on your body, the ease of access to the third row that is available with just a touch of a button, or even the removable second-row console that frees up room for added space.

The 2022 QX60 is a compelling new option in an incredibly competitive segment, setting its sights on the likes of models like the Lexus RX and the Lincoln Aviator. Whether it'll take the crown from any of these models remains to be seen but there's no denying that Infiniti is on its A-Game here and we can't wait to see what's next.

The new Infiniti QX60 is available now and starts at $46,680.
