Now that the next-generation G-Wagen has been unveiled, it's time for Mercedes to shine the spotlight on their performance-specific G63 model. The new G63 will ditch the 5.5L V8 for a 4.0L biturbo V8 that produces 577-hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. This will get you from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, a .9 second improvement over the last gen and it will reach a top speed of 137 mph or 149 mph with the AMG Driver's Package.
It will also feature cylinder deactivation for lower fuel consumption, an improvement that was desperately needed in any G-Wagen and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive with rear-biased torque distribution. The AMG suspension has been improved for off-road use and adaptive adjustable damping is standard in the G63.
Other AMG-specific features will include flared fenders, AMG steering wheel, an AMG-specific radiator grille, bumper, and an AMG Night Package that adds dark tining to the lighting and windows, and obsidian black paint finish elements.
The new AMG G63 will be available later this year.
