BMW drops the top on its i8 hybrid supercar with the debut of the i8 Concept Spyder. The plug-in hybrid can manage 19 miles on electricity alone (94 mpg fuel economy) and is powered by a 131 hp electric motor in the front axle which is working alongside a turbocharged three-cylinder sending 223 hp into the rear. That power will take the car from 0-62 in 5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited).
For the the gadget-inclined, BMW wants to seamlessly integrate your smartphone and the car to bring you features such as battery statistics, charing station locations, a CarFinder app to locate your car in large car parks, and even parking availability at your current destination. Even more fun is a feature that we hope makes it into the production model, two electric kickboard scooters stowed under a slick transparent glass panel at the rear. Link
